The SPS Tutoring Program is intended to complement classroom instruction and promote student success by creating educational environments that encourage independent learning and individual growth. The program’s core services include subject-based tutoring and English Language tutoring. Contact our team by emailing sps-tutoring [[at]] columbia [[dot]] edu.

Subject-Based Tutoring

Subject-based tutoring is meant to help SPS students fill existing gaps in knowledge and to become independent learners in a particular subject. As an expert in a content area, subject-based tutors provide support and clarification for material that students have trouble understanding. Subject-based tutoring is offered in the following content areas: Programming (Python, R, SQL, Machine Learning), Tableau, Finance, Statistics, and Advanced Excel.

Our subject-based tutors are fellow SPS students who have demonstrated academic excellence in their coursework thus far at Columbia. All tutors receive recommendations from SPS faculty members and professional training from Student Support staff. To schedule a one-on-one session with a subject-based tutor, log on to SPS Engage OR visit a tutor with no appointment necessary during their weekly drop-in hours

English Language Tutoring

In partnership with the American Language Program (ALP), the SPS Tutoring Program offers English Language tutoring services for both English Speaking and English Writing. Our English Language tutors are ALP faculty members who volunteer their time to assist SPS students in enhancing their technical English speaking and writing skills.
