Examinations
The required work for each course, including examinations, papers, written and oral reports, projects, and participation in classroom discussions, is prescribed solely by the instructor and by the department/program. Many courses include a midterm and a final examination. The midterm is usually scheduled during a regular class period designated by the instructor. All work must be completed within the term unless the student has been granted the mark of INC (see Grades).
SPS graduate programs and courses do not participate in the University-wide final examination schedule, which dictates the specific day and time for exams. Instead, SPS Instructors have the authority to set the exam date for their courses. However, final examinations must be held during the official University examination period. Instructors are strongly encouraged to select a day of the week and time of day that is consistent with the class session meeting pattern for the course.
The student is responsible for determining his/her individual examination schedule and for being in the examination room promptly at the scheduled hour; unauthorized absence or tardiness at a final examination will automatically result in a failing grade.
