Orientation is designed to foster academic and professional success while at the School of Professional Studies. At orientation, you will be able to meet and network with other SPS students, faculty, and staff who will support your transition to graduate studies. All students are expected to attend.
Please click through each checklist item below and review the content along with any important links or to-do items. Additionally, on the left hand side of this webpage you will find links to our Orientation Schedules for both Master Degree and Non-Degree students as well as an overview of the required Virtual Workshop Series.

SPS New Student Orientation Checklist
The SPS Office of Admissions provides a comprehensive list of "to-do's" to ensure a smooth transition into Columbia University.
Vaccination: There is no COVID-19 vaccine mandate at this time. However, we strongly recommend that all affiliates follow CDC guidelines for COVID-19 vaccination.
Masking: Individuals may decide to mask based on their own circumstances and their preferences. Such decisions should be respected.
Positive COVID-19 tests: An affiliate with a positive test does not need to report their result to the University. Students with a positive test may consult their campus student health service (Columbia Health for Morningside/Manhattanville students or Student Health on Haven for CUIMC students) and faculty and staff may consult their provider for guidance. Affiliates can also refer to NYC guidance on isolation and masking for people who test positive for COVID-19.
You must have a Columbia ID (CUID) card to access all Columbia buildings and resources, make purchases at campus cafes and the University Bookstore, and to take advantage of student discount programs.
All students must upload a valid ID photo by Friday, December 20, 2024 as Student IDs cannot be printed without an approved photo.
