New Student Orientation
Orientation is designed to foster academic and professional success. At Orientation, you will be able to meet and network with other SPS students, faculty, and staff who will support your transition to graduate studies. All students are strongly encouraged to attend.
SPS Pre-Orientation Portal
All School of Professional Studies (SPS) students are required to participate in an online, asynchronous Pre-Orientation portal prior to their arrival on campus. This portal provides information on items such as Title IX, Sexual Respect, Gender-Based Misconduct, EOAA, Academic Integrity, Alumni Affairs, ISSO, Health Services, and others. Many of these presentations are required by the University.
Failure to complete the designated required sections will result in a registration hold on your student account which will prevent you from registering for classes.
To access the pre-orientation portal, please click here, or copy and paste the following link into your browser: https://preorientation.sps.columbia.edu. If you require the ADA compatible version, once you login there is a button on the bottom right that says "ADA Version." You need to complete this by Tuesday, September 8, 2020.
M.S. and M.P.S. Virtual Orientation
This year Fall 2020 Orientation will be online. There will be a series of new student workshops throughout the month of August, provided at multiple times and recorded to accommodate all schedules. You should have received an email inviting you to register for these sessions. If you did not receive this email you can email the Office of Student Life at sps-studentlife [[at]] columbia [[dot]] edu.
During the week before classes you will be invited to your Academic Program Breakout Session where you will meet your academic program team. You will receive an email with more information and registration links in the next couple weeks.
Non-Degree students are invited to attend a Virtual Orientation on Thursday, September 3, 2020. You will receive an email with more information and registration links in the next couple of weeks.
The How to Zoom session is designed to help students become more familiar with Zoom and provide an overview of all the functionalities it has to offer. The facilitators will teach tips and tricks to maximize the app in the classroom and for group projects as you embark on your journey at the School of Professional Studies.
To access libraries and secure campus locations, to make purchases at campus cafés and the University bookstore, and to take advantage of student discount programs, you must have a Columbia ID card. Click here for instructions on how to submit your photo to the ID Center. We will notify all students about when and where they will be able to pick up their Student IDs in the next couple weeks.
Update Your Personal Information
Students are required to update their personal information prior to the first day of classes. Please log into SSOL, the University’s central Student Information System, in order to update your address and emergency contacts.
