Announcing the Keynote Speaker for the 2020 SPS Graduation Ceremony

The School of Professional Studies is pleased to announce that Cory Booker, the United States Senator for New Jersey, will be our keynote speaker at next Saturday’s Graduation (5/16).  The senator will offer remarks supporting the core mission of SPS, provide perspective on a variety of professional paths, and offer inspiration to our newest graduating class.

A native New Jerseyan, Booker received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University, where he played varsity football, volunteered for the campus peer counseling center, and wrote for the student newspaper.  After receiving a Rhodes Scholarship, studying at the University of Oxford, and graduating from Yale Law School, he began a career of advocacy, which included creating a nonprofit organization to provide legal services for low-income families and serving the people of “The Garden State” as an elected official in various levels of government (including nearly seven years in the United States Senate).

In “U.S. Senator Cory Booker to Keynote SPS Graduation: 5 Things to Know,” a just-published article on the school site, you will have a chance to learn more about Senator Booker, beyond what information is listed in his bio.  The article link was also shared in today’s “SPS Features” newsletter.

Please stay tuned for several LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram posts, later this week and all next week, tied to Senator Booker’s role as graduation speaker.  Feel free to join the social media conversation using #ColumbiaSPSGraduation.  Additionally, send all questions, comments, and accounts to sharewithsps [[at]] columbia [[dot]] edu.
