SPS Graduation Ceremony

This ceremony celebrates the accomplishments of the graduating students from the School of Professional Studies Class of 2020. Students’ names are read as they process across the stage.

Students who have or anticipate degree conferrals in October 2019, February 2020, or May 2020 are invited to participate in SPS Graduation.

Please note there are two SPS graduation ceremonies on Saturday, May 16, 2020. Academic Programs are scheduled either in the afternoon or evening ceremony, graduates are only allowed to participate in your assigned ceremony.

Saturday, May 16, 2020 - SPS Afternoon Ceremony

Location: South Lawn, Morningside Campus

Graduate Arrival & Check-in: 2:00 PM EDT

Guest Gates open: 2:45 PM EDT

Ceremony Time: 3:30 PM-5:00 PM EDT

Programs: Actuarial Science, Bioethics, Enterprise Risk Management, Narrative Medicine, Nonprofit Management, Strategic Communication, Sustainability Management, Sustainability Science

Faculty Speaker: TBA

Saturday, May 16, 2020 - SPS Evening Ceremony

Location: South Lawn, Morningside Campus

Graduate Arrival & Check-in: 5:15 PM EDT

Guest Gates open: 6:00 PM EDT

Ceremony Time: 6:45 PM-8:15 PM EDT

Programs: Applied Analytics, Construction Administration, Human Capital Management, Information & Knowledge Strategy, Negotiation & Conflict Resolution, Sports Management, Technology Management

Faculty Speaker: TBA

Other Information

Tickets: Degree candidates must register in order to participate in SPS Graduation. Tickets are not required for SPS Graduation; however, registration for graduates and their guests is required. Degree candidates may register up to four (4) guests.

Graduates: Academic regalia required; Graduates must report to Lerner Hall, Broadway Entrance.

Guests: Guests of degree candidates can enter through John Jay and Carman gates on 114th St. between Broadway & Amsterdam Ave. Please note this entrance has a flight of stairs. Guests with disabilities line up at 116th Street and Amsterdam Avenue. Although tickets are not required for SPS Graduation, degree candidates must register themselves and their guests.

Children are welcome at SPS Graduation. All children over the age of three must be registered to attend.

Because of space constraints, it is recommended that you leave strollers at home. There is no stroller parking or storage available; however, if you must bring a stroller to SPS Graduation, please do not use the general admission gates to enter. Please enter at the accessible gate at Amsterdam and 116th Street.


Columbia University 265th Commencement

It is during the Commencement ceremony that your degree is officially conferred. All of Columbia’s schools participate in this event. The Commencement speaker is traditionally the President of Columbia. The ceremony includes awards to honorary degree recipients and outstanding Columbia teachers. If it rains, Commencement still takes place outside. Students do not process across the stage at this ceremony.

Date: Wednesday, May 20, 2020

Time: 10:30 a.m.

Location: Columbia University Morningside Campus

Tickets: Graduates will be required to register online to participate in University Commencement and to obtain guest tickets. Degree candidates may request up to two (2) tickets. Graduating students do not need tickets for themselves; their regalia and University ID will give graduates access to upper campus on Commencement Day.

Graduates: Academic regalia required; Graduates line up on upper campus at 8:00 a.m.

Guests:Tickets are required. General admission for guests opens at 8:30 a.m.
