Our Mission

The American Language Program, founded in 1911, is one of the oldest English language programs in the United States.

The ALP aims to:

  • provide high-quality academic English courses for full-time language students, matriculated Columbia graduate and undergraduate students, and other members of the Columbia University community
  • help students become familiar with U.S. culture
  • prepare students for studying in a U.S. academic context
  • promote the internationalization of Columbia
