Our Leadership

The Columbia University School of Professional Studies (SPS) is committed to building and delivering flexible programs at the highest levels of excellence; supporting a diverse community of faculty, students, and staff; and expanding the reach and impact of an Ivy League education so that more students can excel in their careers. Comprising Arts and Sciences senior faculty, SPS senior faculty and administrators, and industry thought leaders, SPS’s leadership committees formalize the School’s close ties within and beyond Columbia University. Members provide strategic counsel to the dean and other senior leaders.

Academic Governance

Academic Review Committee

The Academic Review Committee (ARC) follows Columbia’s Arts and Sciences Guidelines for Academic Review, in which programs are reviewed every five to seven years to cultivate and strengthen academic excellence across the School’s graduate and continuing education programs.

Committee on Instruction

Composed of up to five faculty members, the Committee on Instruction advises the dean on curriculum development and planning, including new programs and course approvals.

Executive Committee of the Faculty of Professional Studies

The Executive Committee of the Faculty of Professional Studies is responsible for reviews and promotions of faculty and academic governance for the School.

Faculty Development Committee

Composed of up to six full-time faculty members, the Faculty Development Committee conducts faculty searches and reviews and advises the dean on full-time-faculty recruitment and compliance with University policies.

Pre-College Programs Advisory Board

Comprising the foremost K–12 education thought leaders in the city of New York, the Pre-College Programs Advisory Board provides strategic counsel in the development of Columbia SPS’s Pre-College Programs.

Pre-College Programs Committee on Instruction

The Committee on Instruction for Columbia SPS’s Pre-College Programs is an academic governance committee that reviews and approves all Pre-College curricula and makes recommendations for program instructor hiring and development, and academic program policies.
