Leadership in a Time of Global Crises: Overcoming Obstacles

Join us for the Climate Careers Symposium series to explore how climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic will impact careers.

The series continues on December 2nd with a roundtable discussion featuring Professor Amy Hungerford, Executive Vice President for Arts and Sciences, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and Ruth Fulton Benedict Professor of English and Comparative Literature. Professor Hungerford will address the obstacles and challenges to career development, as well as the opportunities, in a time of unprecedented change as professionals are confronted by needs for disciplinary breadth, collaborative skills and global perspectives.

Professor Hungerford will be in conversation with an esteemed panel of guest speakers in environmental journalism, applied analytics, information and knowledge strategy, negotiation and conflict resolution and sustainability science. The panel will grapple with some of today’s most pressing questions such as:

  • What are some of the professional and personal challenges of leading in a time of crisis, including for example, global pandemics and political conflict?
  • What are the risks and opportunities presented by the rise of social media, and how are cultural transformations affecting constructive leadership in uncertain times?
  • How should leaders respond to diverse perspectives and contradictory goals when formulating institutional visions and implementing strategies in response to global challenges?
