Derek McCracken, M.S., M.A.

Lecturer, Narrative Medicine

At Columbia University, Derek McCracken is a 2023 Faculty Fellow in the School of Professional Studies and a Lecturer in Narrative Medicine. His research and practice converge at the intersection of health equity and pedagogy. Since 2018 Derek has taught Narrative Medicine Pedagogy: Goals, Methods Context in the Certificate of Professional Achievement program. Derek co-chairs the SPS faculty DEIA affinity group, and recently co-designed the seminar DEIA in the Course Evaluation Ecosystem: Creating a Culture of Feedback. Derek also co-led the Activating Racial Justice Through Narrative Negotiation workshop team, recipients of a 2022 Columbia University Provost Anti-Racism Grant.

He received his M.S. in Narrative Medicine from Columbia and his M.A. in English from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
