1. What's one piece of advice you'd give to prospective students?
Be prepared for the level of time and dedication this program requires. The weekly workload is significant and should be understood before beginning the program. That said, the reward for the long nights and weekends spent learning, studying, and traveling to campus is well worth it and you will gain valuable knowledge, meaningful connections, and lifelong friendships.
2. What are the benefits of this asynchronous program from a learning and networking perspective?
This program provides the flexibility to continue your professional career while pursuing a degree that immediately enhances your skill set within the financial services industry. While the lectures, readings, and assignments are asynchronous, there are still many opportunities to connect with your cohort, whose diverse experiences add meaningful perspective to the learning process. Additionally, you have access to faculty through one-on-one meetings and office hours, and they are true scholar-practitioners with deep expertise across various domains of wealth management.
3. How did your career change during and/or after earning an M.P.S. in Wealth Management?
My knowledge of the wealth management industry, as well as my capabilities as a financial advisor, improved significantly, giving me greater confidence to continue growing my career. The program not only positioned me to pursue the CFP® exam, but also connected me with a strong network of professionals who will continue to support my development. The Columbia community is truly unique, and the network it provides has a lasting and positive impact on one's career.
4. Why did you choose the Master of Professional Studies in Wealth Management at the Columbia School of Professional Studies?
In addition to being the only Ivy League program offering a master’s degree in wealth management, I was drawn to the opportunity to learn from professors with real and extensive industry experience. The program emphasizes applying concepts to real-world scenarios through problem-based learning assignments, allowing students to develop practical skills in addressing complex client needs. It also stands out from certificate programs that fulfill CFP® education requirements, as it offers a far more comprehensive and in-depth educational experience with greater resources and long-term value.
