Darren Cohen

Lecturer, Regional President of the Tri-State region, Hilb Group

Darren serves as Regional President of the Tri-State region of The Hilb Group, a national broker ranked in the top 25 largest insurance brokers in the country by The Insurance Journal. The Tri-State region is the largest region in The Hilb Group with more than 650 associates and over one billion in premium. Darren is responsible for the region’s growth initiatives, cultivating and maintaining partnerships with insurers, and maximizing product offerings for all clients.

Prior to becoming Regional President of Tri-State, from August 2022 until November 2023 Darren held the role of Senior Vice President of Carrier Relations and Insurance Strategy responsible for carrier relations enterprise wide. Until 2020, Darren held the role of CEO of Hiram Cohen & Son, Inc. when his agency joined The Hilb Group. As the fourth generation in the family business, Darren oversaw the day-to-day operations of Hiram Cohen & Son, managed client relationships, and negotiated complex insurance placements. For more than 25 years, his client base has included real management and development, law firms, financial institutions, family offices, retailers, high net worth individuals and importers.

Darren serves as a lecturer at the Columbia University School of Professional Studies, leading the Insurance section of the Retirement Planning and Insurance class where students earn a Masters of Professional Studies in Wealth Management. Active in the local community, he is involved in Guiding Eyes for the Blind, an organization that provides guide dogs to those who are visually impaired, and the Windward School for children with language-based learning disabilities. An avid golfer and instrument rated pilot, Darren earned his undergraduate degree from Skidmore College and his J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law, and is admitted to practice law in New York State. Darren lives in Mamaroneck, New York. with his wife and two children.
