Courtney Chicvak

Lecturer

Courtney Chicvak, Esq., is an attorney, educator, coach, and mediator committed to promoting peaceful conflict resolution within communities. As the Program Director of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) at Long Island Dispute Resolution Centers (LIDRC) at EAC Network, she leads a dedicated team of 60+ volunteer mediators, arbitrators, conflict coaches, and apprentices, providing no-cost ADR services throughout Long Island. Her commitment to ensuring access to justice drives her efforts to support the design and implementation of inclusive and innovative ADR programs in collaboration with the New York State Unified Court System and community stakeholders.


An International Mediation Institute (IMI) mediator, an Associate Certified Coach with the International Coaching Federation (ICF), and a New York State Part 146 Basic Mediation Trainer, she leads LIDRC's training and apprenticeship programs, nurturing the next generation of conflict resolution professionals. In her private practice, she mediates family and co-parenting disputes in New York City, helping families find understanding and peace. Courtney’s passion for education extends to her roles at Columbia University, where she is a Curriculum Development Specialist at the Morton Deutsch International Center for Cooperation and Conflict Resolution (MD-ICCCR) and a Lecturer in the Negotiation and Conflict Resolution (NECR) program. She is an Adjunct Law Instructor at the University of California, San Francisco (UC Law SF), and she is also a Conflict Resolution Coach at Stanford Law School, the Yale School of Management, and the Women in Negotiation (WIN) Summit. She recognizes how emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, can enhance the conflict resolution field.


In addition, Courtney serves on the Board of Directors for the National Association for Community Mediation (NAFCM), chairs the Membership Enhancement Committee, co-chairs committees at the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) and the Suffolk County Bar Association (SCBA), contributes to the Alumnae Leadership Council at St. John’s University School of Law, and was appointed to the Fulbright Specialist roster by the U.S. Department of State. She was recognized as a 2024 Long Island Business News Leader in Law. Having earned degrees from Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations, Columbia University’s Negotiation and Conflict Resolution Master’s Program, and St. John’s University School of Law, she is devoted to uplifting others, advancing peace, and promoting access to justice so that communities can thrive.
