Oluwatomisin Sontan, M.S.

Oluwatomisin Sontan, M.S., is a lecturer in the Narrative Medicine program. With a background in comparative literature, black sociology, and bioethics, Tomi utilizes pop culture in her scholarship to inspire interdisciplinary and plain language discussions that inform policy and facilitate health justice and health equity. Tomi’s work is dedicated to honoring the stories of patients, whose voices are often silenced in the clinical encounter. She believes that by revealing this hidden narrative, we can create a healthcare system that prioritizes and addresses the needs of the marginalized. Outside of the academic space, Tomi serves as the Narrative Competency Lead at Say Ah!, a health literacy nonprofit based in NYC, to design and conduct narrative competency and narrative advocacy workshops for community health members, equipping them with the tools to tell their own stories.
