Magazine Names the Columbia University Master of Science in Construction Administration the Best Construction Graduate Program at an Ivy League Institution

By Jaideep Salil

The School of Professional Studies Master of Science in Construction Administration program was picked as the best Ivy League institution for graduate construction studies by Intelligent, an online higher-education magazine.

The magazine, which helps students identify the right program and school for their interests, evaluated 354 programs across 172 universities and colleges on the basis of faculty, flexibility, course strength, cost, and reputation. Columbia’s Construction Administration program received a score of 99.08 out of 100 for its on-campus thirty-six-credit program, which is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

Suitable for individuals who have completed their baccalaureate education, as well as for those who already work in the field, the program prepares students to engage comprehensively with multiple issues, including environmental impact and sustainability, which are of vital importance in the construction trade today. With the United States needing 40,000 more construction managers by 2029, the program teaches students to manage large and complex building projects. The curriculum focuses on the commercial and residential building sectors but covers processes of construction administration that are applicable to any kind of project—from stadiums and parks to railroad terminals and airports. The program's twelve core courses focus on the fundamentals of construction administration: cost estimating and project financing, techniques, human and material resources, construction law, conflict resolution, project management, and environmental safety and conservation. The program offers part-time and full-time options.
