Dr. Jayshree Seth, Corporate Scientist and 3M's Chief Science Advocate, joins Intro to HCM Class.

Dr. Jayshree Seth, Corporate Scientist and 3M’s Chief Science Advocate, joined Dr. Aaron Wallen’s and Dr. E. "Spike" Rivera's Introduction to Human Capital Management class.

As a scientist, Dr. Seth exemplifies 3M's approach to providing global solutions through stakeholder partnership, whether for products or for science advocacy. With deep conviction and a renowned track record of innovation, she personifies the value of supporting and promoting the diverse views and contributions of women in science. Featured in a 3M docuseries, "Not the Science type," and the author of "Heart of Science: Engineering Footprints, Fingerprints, & Imprints," Dr. Seth uncovers big ideas by relating her experiences and through her generous sharing of insights, reflections, and tips.

During her Columbia Human Capital Management lecture, Dr. Seth discussed the current Human Experience: confronting issues and daily worries via “Punctuated Equilibrium,” which has been defined as change happening suddenly over a short period of time and followed by a long period of stability.

Dr. Seth urged our graduate students to reach within their innovative mindsets to overcome the transformed VUCA world. Significantly, she offered a novel way to think about VUCA - as Volatility has shifted to Vulnerability, Uncertainty is revealed as Unprecedented, Complexity has become personified with Contentious, and Ambiguity is being Amplified. Her highly engaging presentation also reinforced a drive towards innovation, as we cope, "either by making things better or making better things."

Of particular significance to our students, Dr. Seth creatively described the essence of  HCM through HUMAN: H = holistic, U = unified, M = meaningful, A = analytical, N = nimble. We are honored and grateful to Jayshree for providing our class with world-class executive mentorship during this session!

Note: We are pleased to note that Dr. Seth will join a panel of distinguished leaders on January 27, 2022 to discuss STEM and Diversity. RSVP Here.
