The Ukraine Crisis

Dear Faculty, Students, and Staff:

I am sure you are following the unfolding news out of Ukraine and Russia with great distress. My heart is with the people of Ukraine and with all those who value peace yet have found themselves hurt or enmired in this horrific invasion. The devastation and loss of life resulting from this act of war has saddened us all. I denounce the actions of Russian President Putin and the Kremlin, which have led to such enormous tragedy over this past week.

Please consider utilizing the resources available to you as we continue to reel from the tragic news coming out of the region. Faculty and staff can find free, confidential counseling services through our Employee Assistance Program. Students, please reach out to our Student Affairs team for any support you might need–contact our sps-deanofstudents [[at]] columbia [[dot]] edu (Senior Associate Dean of Student Affairs Zelon Crawford) or our dmp2176 [[at]] columbia [[dot]] edu (Director of Student Wellness Danielle Pompili). You can also schedule a wellness appointment with a member of our team here. Columbia’s Counseling and Psychological Services can be found here and the Office of the University Chaplain here. There will be opportunities to participate in discussions and other programming to process the evolving situation in the coming days and weeks.

To those with family and friends who are currently in the conflict zone, know that we are thinking of you. To those of Ukrainian or Russian ancestry who are grieving these events, know that we are grieving with you.

Sincerely,

Troy
