Three Applied Analytics Students Win Hackathon for Women

Three Applied Analytics students won first place in Marsh Global’s ReWRITE Risk and Insurance Hackathon for Women. Team Breeze, which included Jing Li '19SPS, Xinyi Qian '19SPS, and Paulina Rodriguez '19SPS, developed a small business recommendation engine prototype.

Marsh, a global leader in insurance broking and innovative risk management solutions, hosted the hackathon in New York and Phoenix on April 6-7 to celebrate International Women’s Day 2019. Marsh hopes to introduce more women to insurtech.

Called #ReWRITE — for Women, Risk, Insurance, Technology, Empowerment — the hackathon aimed to provide women of different backgrounds and experiences a unique opportunity to learn, network, and create next-generation insurtech solutions. Participants were organized into small teams to solve for a risk management challenge using emerging technologies such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, and internet of things.

Marsh will feature and award Team Breeze at RIMS 2019, the largest risk event of the year. The team will also receive a monetary award of $25,000.
