SPS Student Government Vice President Is Dedicated to “Creating Pathways for Others to Thrive”

Abhishek Chauthmal is an M.S. in Technology Management student at the Columbia University School of Professional Studies and vice president of the SPS Student Government. Chauthmal is currently working as a product manager intern at an insurtech company and has prior experience in business consulting and IT.

As a Technology Management student, Chauthmal is dedicated to bridging the gap between the social and technological worlds, using innovation to empower communities and drive progress globally.

“In the dynamic world of technology, I’ve realized that innovation is not just about building systems; it’s about building communities. My studies have taught me the critical balance between technical expertise and human connection,” Chauthmal said.

As vice president, Chauthmal strives to create a positive, enriching environment for students. Recently, he spearheaded a historic change to the Technology Management program by extending its tenure from 1 year to 1.5 years with a full-time internship module. This program will allow students to gain real-world experience, equipping them with career readiness upon graduation. Chauthmal was the winner of the Civic Engagement Award and a finalist for the Academic Leadership Award as part of the 2024 SPS Excellence Awards, recognizing his remarkable contributions to the Columbia University community.

“I believe that leadership is about creating pathways for others to thrive, ensuring that every concern is heard, every idea is valued, and every student feels empowered,” he said.

Chauthmal’s commitment to engaging with the SPS community stems from his passion for social impact. In 2021, he founded the Rajabhau Gudade Foundation, a child welfare NGO.

“Through every challenge and milestone,” Chauthmal said, “I’ve come to believe that the true measure of success lies in the impact we leave behind.”
