Nick Weltmann, FCAS, Lecturer in Columbia’s Insurance Management master’s program, presented “Building Dynamic Simulation Models” at the annual conference for the Casualty Actuarial Society event this past November. He will be using the same dynamic simulation model in his upcoming Fall 2021 course, Product Pricing and Distribution. When asked what the most valuable lesson they had gained from the simulation exercise was, survey respondents said, “We found these projects brought out the strengths in all of us. Having this to work on over several weeks allowed us to get into a rhythm where everyone contributed in a way that benefited the group. We were able to truly talk through the options and the rationale for making the decisions that we made. Of all the groups and projects, this simulation exercise was the most beneficial in this format.”
