This week, the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Committee at the Columbia University School of Professional Studies launched climate surveys for faculty, students, and staff. The Columbia SPS community has until February 10, 2022, to submit their anonymous survey responses.
The DEIA subcommittees will analyze the survey data to identify successes and gaps as well as to provide recommendations for advancing the School’s DEIA strategy. Recommendations may include enhanced faculty hiring practices; additional DEIA-related sessions for students, faculty, and staff; and a review of budgetary allocations.
This is the second faculty and staff survey and third student survey issued to the Columbia SPS community since 2020. Climate surveys are designed to capture individuals’ perceptions of an organization and to identify potential areas for improvement. Studies in organizational psychology have shown that a positive work culture contributes to higher productivity throughout an organization.
The survey takes approximately five to eight minutes to complete and consists of mostly multiple-choice statements and some open-ended questions. Opportunities for individual feedback will be provided as well. Students, faculty, and staff members should check their Columbia email to access the survey.
