By Shahryar Shaghaghi, Program Director, M.S. in Technology Management; Professor of Professional Practice, Columbia University School of Professional Studies
I am delighted to announce two stellar additions to the M.S. in Technology Management faculty: Dr. Francesca Rossi, IBM fellow and the IBM global leader for responsible AI and AI governance, and cybersecurity and public sector leader Kathy Cage. Their arrival underscores our commitment to bringing world-class technology leaders into the classroom who are shaping the future of the industry and equipping our students with the latest practices and perspectives on AI and digital transformation.
Based at the T.J. Watson IBM Research Lab, IBM fellow Dr. Francesca Rossi has deep expertise in artificial intelligence (AI) governance and best practices for corporate AI ethics and risk assessment. She leads AI research projects and co-chairs the IBM Responsible Technology board, which provides coordinated governance for all AI ethics activities across the company. Her research interests focus on AI, with an emphasis on constraint reasoning, preferences, multi-agent systems, computational social choice, neuro-symbolic AI, cognitive architectures, and value alignment. She is a fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) and the European Association for Artificial Intelligence (EurAI), and served as president of the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI) and AAAI. She was a founding member of the board of the Partnership on AI, co-chair of the OECD expert groups on AI futures and trustworthy investments, and a member of the European Commission high-level expert group on AI. Dr. Rossi will teach the Ethics and Technology in a Changing World course in spring 2026.
After graduating from Columbia University with an M.A. in French Philology, Kathy Cage embarked on a distinguished career as a cybersecurity and defense technology leader spanning the U.S. Department of Defense, the private sector, and academia. As chief information officer for Army Cyber Command, she led worldwide initiatives encompassing enterprise architecture for offensive and defensive cyber operations, expanding technical capacity and directing international cyber transformation initiatives. She was also an instructor at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Later, she joined Morgan Stanley as chief operating officer for operational risk, where she led the implementation of IT asset governance frameworks that meet evolving regulatory demands. She currently advises organizations on cybersecurity strategy, operational resilience, and digital transformation as associate managing director at Kroll. Cage will bring her expertise at the intersection of innovation, governance, and digital modernization to the Digital Transformation course in spring 2026.
As tech leaders, Cage and Dr. Rossi are guiding global organizations through industry transformations reshaped by AI. Their appointments reflect the program’s commitment to equipping graduates with the latest technology skills and insights to lead digital transformation and innovation across industries with an ethical lens in the age of AI. Program courses are developed and taught by forward-thinking faculty who work at the intersection of technology and governance and drive real-world applications of technology in a rapidly evolving global business environment.
