In response to the rapidly evolving data technology landscape, Columbia University School of Professional Studies is expanding the scope of its Applied Analytics master’s program with new concentrations in Emerging Technologies and Quantitative Management Analytics starting in the fall 2025 semester.
“With these additional concentrations, Columbia graduate students will find new ways to customize their studies and choose their own pathways to success,” Columbia School of Professional Studies Dean Troy J. Eggers says. “By expanding the Applied Analytics master’s program offerings, Columbia University will equip a new generation of industry leaders to tackle the real-world challenges of their complex fields.”
Emerging Technologies explores innovations in the capture, storage, and analysis of digital information at scale, such as Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) for data generation and capture, blockchain technology for secure and transparent data storage, scaling analytical solutions using cloud-based platforms, and generative AI algorithms to address complex analytical challenges.
Quantitative Management Analytics focuses on quantitative methods for practical applications in operations and management, including algorithmic decision-making for financial portfolio management, quantitative risk analysis for cybersecurity, and optimization modeling for on-time delivery efficiency.
“Responding to the students, consulting with our expert faculty, and anticipating industry trends, we’re opening new professional pathways for our Columbia University Applied Analytics master’s degree graduates,” says Kitty Kay Chan, Ph.D., professor of practice and Applied Analytics program director. “We look forward to welcoming our first students into the Emerging Technologies and Quantitative Management Analytics concentrations in the fall of 2025.”
Led by a mix of industry thought leaders, noted faculty, and respected professionals, the Master of Science in Applied Analytics program is designed to prepare students with the data and skills needed to succeed beyond the classroom. The program combines in-depth knowledge of data analytics with the leadership, management, and communication principles and tactics necessary to impact decision-making across industries and organizational functions. Graduates leave the program prepared to use data to deliver insights through analytics, keeping pace with rapid innovation in data collection and processing technologies.
