IKNS Conversations that Matter: From Theory to Execution: Operationalizing Responsible AI

AI promises sharper insights and faster decisions when grounded in organizational values and built for the long term. Join IKNS faculty members Nicole Alexander and Manail Anis for a candid conversation, moderated by IKNS student Lazaro Corales, on moving Responsible AI from boardroom principle to operational reality. Together, they will explore how leaders can design systems that drive measurable business value while strengthening trust, accountability, and social impact.

ABOUT THE EVENT
As AI shifts from experimental to essential, leaders are confronting a new generation of high-stakes decisions that extend far beyond technical implementation. In this installment of the IKNS Conversations That Matter series, we examine the “AI conscience” and the real-world implications of managing increasingly autonomous systems across organizations.

The session will explore the critical distinction between values-led and values-driven AI, and how these approaches influence not only social impact but also long-term return on AI investments. IKNS faculty members Nicole Alexander and Manail Anis will move the discussion beyond abstract frameworks to the practical realities of operationalizing Responsible AI, from governance and accountability to cultural adoption and workflow redesign.

Together, they will address how leaders can balance sunk costs, innovation pressure, and ethical guardrails while building systems that remain adaptive, transparent, and trustworthy. Looking ahead to where both industry and governance are heading in 2026, this conversation will offer a pragmatic road map for embedding responsibility into the core of how organizations design, deploy, and scale AI.

ABOUT THE IKNS CONVERSATIONS THAT MATTER SERIES

“One good conversation can shift the direction of change forever.” - Linda Lambert

Conversations That Matter is a series of public education events that bring the thinkers, doers, and experts of the IKNS community together with a broader audience of curious minds from across Columbia University and beyond. Through the fruitful exchange of ideas and the sharing of knowledge by industry experts, distinguished academics, and thought innovators at the leading edge of their fields, we hope to ignite further discussion and action leading to positive change in organizations, communities, and industry.

This series is brought to you by Columbia University’s M.S. in Information & Knowledge Strategy (IKNS) program as part of the University’s ongoing commitment to advancing knowledge with the purpose of moving careers, communities, and markets forward.
