Dialogue Across Difference: Communication Challenges in a Post-truth Era

Dialogue Across Difference

This event is open only to CUID holders, alumni, and prospective students.

Polarization along belief and values axes and pressure to take sides can harden stances and lead to adversarial communication practices. Toxic tropes and the absence of dialogue altogether are on the rise, weakening our democratic institutions and threatening democracy itself.

This event will explore the manifestations of conflict talk through the scholar-practitioner lens of three communication-based disciplines in the School of Professional Studies: Strategic Communication, Narrative Medicine, and Negotiation and Conflict Resolution. Panelists will share research and practices intended to foster connection, facilitate communication, and strengthen democratic practices.

Program:

6:00-6:30 p.m.: Drinks and Networking
6:30–7:30 p.m.: Panel and Q&A
7:30–8:30 p.m.: Interactive session
