Kate Yi Wang

Alumni, Applied Analytics

Originally from Guangzhou, China, Kate Yi Wang is in her final semester of the Master of Science in Applied Analytics program at Columbia University. She received a B.A. in Education Policies and Entrepreneurship from New York University. Kate joined SPS Student Government (SPSSG) in September 2020, and has been serving as the President of SPSSG since May 2021. She is also a first-generation college student who works on campus as a graduate student intern.

Having lived, studied and worked in 3 countries (China, U.S., U.K.) and traveled across continents, Kate considers herself a globally-minded individual. She is passionate about solving problems through interdisciplinary thinking, technologies, data analytics, quantitative and qualitative research. Her previous work experience has spanned both the public and private sectors, including city governments, healthcare, product, finance, education and strategy consulting. As Kate is wrapping up her time at Columbia, she hopes to extend her interdisciplinary knowledge and analytical skill sets to impact decision-making at all levels within organizations.

Her previous advisor described her as “a true New Yorker – someone who can manage with a lot on their plate, and always want more. Kate does so with such grace that she is an absolute pleasure to work with, and often a student I can call on for help with talking to younger or prospective students.”

In her free time, she enjoys doing pilates, playing squash, traveling, and trying new recipes from around the world. Her goal is to travel across the 50 states in the U.S. and is now in her 20th state. An advocate for sustainability, Kate loves nature and you can often find her taking weekend hiking trips with friends in New England.
