Thomas Murphy

Prior to joining Columbia University, Murphy was a senior consultant and the leader of Willis Towers Watson’s Retirement business for the U.S. East Division, encompassing all East Coast operations. He has more 33 years of consulting experience specializing in consulting on topics such as retirement program financial planning, benefit program redesign, retirement program risk management and benefit-related issues associated with corporate mergers, acquisitions and spin-offs. Over the course of his career, Murphy worked with many Fortune 500 and Fortune 100 organizations.
In his leadership role, Murphy was responsible for the overall operation of the practice, including business planning and financial management, the recruiting and developing of staff and ensuring that all quality standards are met in the work produced for our clients.
Over the years, Murphy has provided expert commentary and background for articles published in periodicals such as The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Fortune, Smart Money, Forbes and Business Insurance. He also served as a guest speaker at a number of professional conferences, including those sponsored by the Society of Actuaries and the American Compensation Association.
Murphy is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries, an enrolled actuary under ERISA and Fellow of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries.
