Susan Alevas

Lecturer, Human Capital Management; Instructor, Columbia Pre-College Program

Before joining Columbia University in 2021, Susan Alevas taught at the university level beginning in 1996 across undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs, including at New York University. She remains associated with two graduate programs at Cornell University. Ms. Alevas earned her J.D. from Touro University School of Law, where she was named to the Dean’s List and earned schoolwide honors for her moot court brief and oral argument. She also served as technical editor for SPHR Exam Prep and PHR Exam Prep (C. Winterfield) and as a reviewer for multiple editions of Employment and Labor Law (Cihon, P.; Castagnera, J.). 

For nearly 25 years, Ms. Alevas served as in-house counsel for several governing boards in public education and health care, where she instituted best legal practices in the areas of constitutional, contract, insurance, election, education, health and safety, employment, and labor law. Since 2004, she has consulted on a wide variety of human resources and law-related matters for U.S. domestic and international corporations and union associations based in the United States, Canada, Bermuda, Singapore, Australia, and Europe.

Through the New York City Bar, Ms. Alevas donated her legal services to the victims and families of those impacted on September 11, 2001. For nearly twenty years, Ms. Alevas has been donating her legal services to safeguard voter rights in both New York and Florida, the two states in which she is licensed to practice law.
