Susan Alevas

Before joining Columbia University, Susan Alevas had taught at the university level since 1996 (undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs). Since 2001, she has served as a Public Educator for Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations extension campus. In 2005, Alevas joined eCornell, where she facilitates strategic leadership, human resources management, dispute resolution, and employment/labor law courses and delivers customized training for some of Cornell's corporate clients. Additionally, she teaches graduate courses in Cornell's Executive Master’s in Human Resources Management degree program.

Alevas was technical editor for SPHR Exam Prep and PHR Exam Prep (C. Winterfield). She was a reviewer for Employment and Labor Law (Cihon, P.; Castagnera, J.). 

During Alevas’ twenty-five year career, she led the Human Resources department, while also serving as in-house counsel to the governing board and overseeing organizational legal issues (education and health-care/hospital administration). Since 2004, she has consulted on a wide variety of human resources and law-related matters for US domestic and international corporations and union associations based in the United States, Canada, Bermuda, Singapore, Australia, and Europe.

Through the New York City Bar, Alevas donated her legal services to the victims and families of those impacted on September 11, 2001. Since 2004, she has been donating her legal services to safeguard voter rights in both New York and Florida, the two states in which she is licensed to practice law. She earned her Juris Doctorate from Touro School of Law and her B.A. in Psychology from SUNY at Stony Brook.
