Stephanie Adler Yuan, MS

Stephanie Adler Yuan is Practicum Coordinator and a lecturer in the MS program, teaching narrative medicine workshop facilitation. A 2015 graduate of the program, she has spoken widely about relationships of care and has led narrative medicine workshops for a variety of patient, student and clinician groups at NYU Lutheran Medical Center, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Maimonides Medical Center, Mount Auburn Hospital, and elsewhere. She is the co-author, with Dr. Danielle Spencer, of “Critical Conversations: A 360º Clinical Portrait,” published in the journal Esopus (2015).

Stephanie’s particular interest lies in how understanding story and narrative can improve relationships among caregivers and staff within healthcare institutions. As Director of Programs at the Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare, Stephanie oversees the Schwartz Center’s training and education efforts, working with interprofessional teams at healthcare organizations around the world to develop programs that provide social and emotional support to healthcare staff across professions, promote recovery from workplace stress and adversity, and improve organizational culture.

In addition to her MS in Narrative Medicine from Columbia, Stephanie holds a bachelor’s degree in French literature from Tufts University.
