Shailagh J. Murray

Shailagh Murray was appointed Executive Vice President for Public Affairs at Columbia University in September 2018. She oversees the Office of Communications and Public Affairs and the Office of Government and Community Affairs. She spent nearly six years shaping communications strategy inside the Obama White House, most recently serving as Senior Advisor to President Obama from 2015 to 2017. Previously, she was Vice President Biden’s deputy chief of staff and communications director. Prior to that, she worked as a journalist for The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post. She has a B.A. in humanities from University of Missouri-Columbia and a Master’s in Journalism from Northwestern University.
