Sergei Zalesov

Associate, American Language Program

Sergei Zalesov teaches English courses at Columbia University’s American Language Program, specializing in Advanced Academic Writing.

Sergei is a Fulbright scholar who has taught English writing, pronunciation, and teacher-training courses for 15+ years in the United States, Brazil, and Russia. He earned a Master of Arts degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he later worked as a Lecturer and received the Mary A. Hussey Award for Excellence in ESOL Teaching and the Impact Award for Inspiring Efforts During COVID-19.

He participated in multiple training and language assessment projects at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City as a Language and Communications Consultant and was selected to write and deliver a speech to the UN Secretary-General.

Sergei’s areas of interest include pronunciation, academic writing, online teaching, technology in the classroom, and specialized language and teacher training for International Teaching Fellows (ITFs).
