Raoul Rickenberg
Lecturer, M.S. Technology Management
Raoul Rickenberg is a researcher, designer, and educator who has led the development of award-winning products and services, founded and directed research and design firms, and launched an academic program which continues to shape the practice of design management. This experience has given him a broad perspective on the social as well as the technical dimensions of innovation. It has enabled him to demonstrate the value of integrating data-driven and human-centric approaches to design, and of promoting practices and processes which facilitate such cross-pollination. In short, it has honed his ability to empower students and stakeholders alike.
Prior to teaching at Columbia, Raoul was a member of the faculty at Parsons School of Design, where he launched the school’s Strategic Design and Management program. He has also taught at FH Potsdam (Germany), and given invited lectures and organized workshops at institutions across the United States and abroad. In addition to publishing research on our interactions with technology in academic journals, Raoul has exhibited projects that examine such interactions in juried shows and design competitions. He is an active member of several professional organizations, and regularly reviews submissions to peer-reviewed journals.
