Muriel Campomizzi
Part-Time Lecturer
Muriel Campomizzi began her career with a multinational corporation involved in diversified industries, starting with a railway project where she monitored vendors and managed planning and budgeting. She was later entrusted with managing contractual risks and overseeing 20+ vendors on a $7 billion dam project. In this role, she assessed the impact of three union strikes and a force majeure event, successfully leading negotiations to revise contractual terms.
Transitioning to the Quality Management System team, Muriel developed a process improvement methodology that integrated best practices in technology and procedures for on-site services. She created briefing materials, presentations, and reports, earning ISO 9001 certification, and extended training through team workshops across the project.
Muriel has a strong background in corporate sustainability, particularly in water and sewage projects aimed at serving underprivileged populations. Her accomplishments include budgeting a $9 million project to expand an oceanic disposal system benefiting 2 million people and conducting feasibility studies to improve water supply and sewage systems across several Brazilian states where access to basic infrastructure is limited. She identified key challenges, proposed mitigation measures, and implemented an Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework. Her work in contractual risk management includes a $250 million public-private partnership to expand water and sewage systems across a Brazilian state.
Driven by her ambition to tackle more significant challenges, Muriel pursued advanced education, earning an M.B.A., an M.S. in Project Management from NYU, and an M.S. in ERM from Columbia University. She is also an adjunct faculty member in both programs, where she shares her expertise with future professionals.
Muriel has conducted research in the Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) field, supporting proposals for research grants of up to $3 million. She developed budgets and templates and prepared financial, conflict-of-interest, and code-of-conduct policies.
In her current role at a multi-government organization, Muriel initially supported field missions in business management, information, technology, and communications-related matters. She contributed to the implementation of risk management strategies across entities, fostering a culture of risk awareness and ethical consciousness, while auditing internal hiring processes to ensure transparency and compliance. Currently, she is focused on evaluating processes across multiple functional areas from a risk management perspective, aligning with the organization's simplification initiatives and mitigating potential impacts.
