Joe’s consulting practice focuses on: (1) corporate strategy including investment strategy and corporate development/M&A, (2) commercial and specialty underwriting, and (3) performance management and risk management (including credit risk management and ceded reinsurance).
Prior to joining PwC, Joe led the Enterprise Risk Management function of ACE Group Holdings (now Chubb) where his responsibilities included a variety of analytical, credit, political risk, reinsurance security, underwriting, and cross accumulations/correlation activities regarding the management of the firm’s assets and liabilities. Under his leadership, ACE’s ERM function achieved an “excellent” rating from S&P.
Joe began his career at a Berkshire Hathaway subsidiary in a variety of claims and underwriting positions at both the line and staff levels.
Joe was previously a Fellow of the Gabelli Center for Global Security Analysis at Fordham University (2013 to 2024), a contributing editor of the journal Strategy & Leadership (2014 to 2023), and a Part-Time Professor of Finance in the University of Connecticut’s MBA program (2003 to 2012).
Joe is the author of: The Business of Personal Finance: How to Improve Financial Wellness (with John Hoffmire; Routledge, 2022), Creating Strategic Value: Applying Value Investing Principles in Corporate Management (Columbia Business School Publishing, 2020), and Applied Value Investing (McGraw-Hill, 2009).
