Jay Zhu, FCAS
Chief Actuary, Plymouth Rock Assurance
Jay Zhu is the Chief Actuary at Plymouth Rock Assurance, where he leads the actuarial function with responsibilities spanning reserving, rate indications, claims analysis, and actuarial modeling across personal auto and homeowners insurance. He also leads AI transformation initiatives with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence into actuarial analytics, workflows, and decision-making.
Jay has more than 15 years of experience in the property and casualty insurance industry across both commercial and personal lines, with a broad background spanning the core actuarial disciplines of pricing and reserving, predictive analytics, and catastrophe modeling. Prior to joining Plymouth Rock, Jay served as Head of Actuarial for North America at Allianz Commercial, where he led the CFO actuarial function for Allianz’s North American portfolio encompassing a broad range of commercial insurance products. Prior to that, he served as Director of Personal Insurance Reserving at Kemper.
Throughout his career, Jay has focused on bringing emerging analytical capabilities into practical actuarial applications and broader business decision-making. His experience includes developing and implementing predictive pricing models, stochastic reserving frameworks, enterprise risk analytics, and, more recently, leveraging AI to modernize actuarial processes. He has also built and led high-performing actuarial teams and partnered closely with senior business leaders on portfolio performance, risk assessment, and strategic initiatives.
Jay is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS). He holds an M.S. in Actuarial Science from the University of Iowa and a B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
