Heather D. McArn is Director of the Finance and Corporate Restructuring Services at Thomson Reuters, where she leads the development of legal know-how and helps shape how AI delivers practical guidance to law firms and in-house counsel.
Prior to this role, Heather served as a financial services regulator at the New York Department of Financial Services, where she was Chief of Staff and Special Counsel. In that capacity, she led efforts to modernize the agency's supervision and oversight processes, including implementation of first-in-the-nation cyber security and virtual currency regulations. She also led the planning and implementation of agency-wide risk management initiatives, including the creation of Compliance and Research Innovation divisions.
Earlier in her career, Heather was a Partner at two international law firms where she advised financial institutions, creditors, boards, and court-appointed fiduciaries in high-profile bankruptcies, restructurings, and regulatory investigations She has extensive experience helping institutions design and implement durable compliance and risk management programs in highly regulated environments.
Heather is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/EU) and frequently publishes and speaks on financial services and regulatory developments. She previously practiced at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison and Jenner & Block. She also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Burton R. Lifland and the Honorable Arthur J. Gonzalez, former Chief Judges of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.
