G. Thomas Couser, Ph.D.

G. Thomas Couser is Professor Emeritus of English at Hofstra University, where he served as Director of American Studies and Director of Disability Studies, a program he initiated. He teaches American literature (especially Native American literature), life writing (autobiography, memoir and so on), and disability studies. His recent books include Recovering Bodies: Illness, Disability, and Life Writing (1997), Vulnerable Studies: Ethics and Life Writing (2004), and Signifying Bodies: Disability and Contemporary Life Writing (2009). His work is taught at universities around the world.
