Eduardo González

UN Independent Expert on the Situation of Human Rights in Mali

Eduardo González is a leading global expert in the field of transitional justice with over twenty-five years of experience supporting post conflict justice processes around the world. After working in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of his native Peru, he went on to support several truth commissions, and to contribute to the establishment of reparation and memory institutions in countries as diverse as Colombia, Tunisia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Canada. In the United States, he has supported truth commissions in Greensboro NC, Maine and Iowa.

His research has focused on the rights of indigenous peoples, the use of truth-telling to address racial injustice and the establishment of unofficial and local truth commissions.

He is a member of the Truth Telling Project, a grassroots organization focused on racial justice through truth-telling and reparation. 

He currently serves as the UN Independent Expert on the Situation of Human Rights in Mali.

He has taught at universities in the US, Peru and Venezuela. He holds an M.A. in Sociology from the New School for Social Research.
