Denise M. Berger, FAIA

Industry Expert; Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Northeast Region, AECOM

Denise joined AECOM DCSA in February 2020 as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for the Northeast, which includes Metro New York. Previously, Denise was Chief of Operations for the Engineering Department of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) where she oversaw day-to-day operations as well as key strategic priorities, enterprise wide-engineering initiatives, the expansion of integrated project delivery and use of Design-Build as the PANYNJ’s prime contracting strategy. In this capacity, Denise managed a team of more than 550 architects and engineers responsible for the planning, design, construction, and commissioning of $1.3 billion annually in critical transportation projects for the region. During her 30-year career at the PANYNJ, Denise led many complex, large-scale capital projects, including those related to the World Trade Center Master Plan.

In 2016, she founded the PANYNJ's Women's Council to empower and advance women in leadership roles. Denise currently serves on the advisory board of NYIT School of Architecture & Design and the Board of Directors of ACE Mentor Program, Professional Women in Construction and Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS) International. She has received numerous awards, and in 2019, WTS’ Greater New York Chapter named her “Woman of the Year.”
