Jennifer Goez Guest Lectures Dr. Edna Chun's Introduction to Human Capital Management Class

On February 10, 2021, Jennifer Goez, Senior Director of Faculty Recruitment and Communication Strategy in the Columbia University School of Professional Studies, visited Dr. Edna Chun’s Introduction to Human Capital Management class to discuss perspectives on talent attraction and acquisition. She shared the five elements in the virtuous circle of Columbia University’s Employee Value Proposition: mission, opportunity, work content, rewards, and people. Key points of her discussion with the class included:

  • Because performance is discretionary, we need to inspire and empower faculty and staff to make Columbia a great place to work and ensure its sustainable growth.
  • Four pillars of diverse hiring capabilities include: diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism (DEIA) brand equity; strategic sourcing; fair hiring practices; and organizational support for hiring and retaining diverse and talented faculty. Authentic messages are an integral part of sharing Columbia’s EVP with the outside world and campus community.
  • State-of-the-art applicant tracking systems are tools that help us meet our DEIA goals and

not only improve candidates’ experiences, but also facilitate the speed and effectiveness in building a pool of diverse and talented applicants.

Representative comments from the class included:

Jennifer was great.  Thank you.  So close to what I wanted to learn.

Absolutely appreciate the guest lectures and invaluable insight!
