IKNS Conversations That Matter

Join us for the next Conversations that Matter, featuring Arno Boersma.

Connecting The Dots—Building networks among the world’s small island developing states (SIDS) to create sustainable development solutions

Key Topics: Social Impact, Networks, Collaboration, Innovation, Small Island Developing States (SIDS), Sustainable Development, Knowledge Strategy

Increasingly, humanity is facing major global challenges that cannot be solved by a single government or institution acting alone. As we confront these, we must harness diverse intelligence, large multidisciplinary data sets, and novel product ideas. In a word: Networks. Networks involve people engaging across perspectives, organizations, and geographies to create shared solutions, and to support each other.

Columbia University’s M.S. in Information and Knowledge Strategy program invites you to join a “Conversation That Matters” with Arno Boersma, Founder of Island Impact, and Former Director of the COE for Small Island Developing States of the UNDP, as he shares his experiences in creating networks of Island nations as they tackle challenges in economic development, sustainability, and plastic pollution.

About the Conversations that Matter series

“One good conversation can shift the direction of change forever. “

Linda Lambert

Conversations that Matter is a series of public education events that bring the thinkers, doers, and experts of the IKNS community together with a broader audience of curious minds from across Columbia University and beyond. These conversations tackle topics that are not only timely and relevant, but also at the core of the Information and Knowledge Strategy discipline. Through the fruitful exchange of ideas and the sharing of knowledge by industry experts, distinguished academics, and thought innovators at the leading edge of their fields, we hope to ignite further discussion and action leading to positive change in organizations, communities, and industry.

This series is brought to you by Columbia University’s M.S. in Information and Knowledge Strategy (IKNS) program as part of the University’s ongoing commitment to advancing knowledge with the purpose of moving careers, communities, and markets forward.

About the IKNS Program

Columbia’s M.S. in Information and Knowledge Strategy (IKNS) transforms knowledge-based practitioners into knowledge-driven leaders. Interdisciplinary in nature, this degree has its underpinnings in information and knowledge management, organizational development, social science, psychology, and economics. The IKNS program marries research and theory with the lived experiences of distinguished academics and leading practitioners, creating a curriculum that educates the next generation of executives on how to effectively leverage the knowledge capital of their organizations to drive growth, productivity, and societal impact. Students of the IKNS program will develop a holistic approach to leading people and organizations while mastering proficiency in collaboration, strategic thinking, innovative design and entrepreneurship, evidence-based decision making, and digital transformation.
