On Sept. 2, Columbia University launched the Keep Our Community Healthy campaign featuring videos, blogs and vlogs that highlight students' personal stories and reasons for upholding the Community Health Compact and following their local public health guidelines. This campaign features students from every Columbia school.
“We all know how important it is for our community to follow and live out Columbia’s Community Health Compact, as well as follow public health regulations wherever we are located,” said Joseph Greenwell, Vice President for Student Affairs at University Life. “This campaign focuses on elevating student voices regarding why this is so important for us all. The students’ stories are powerful, saying to one another, ‘we are all in this together and it is on all of us to do our part to keep our community healthy.’”
Among the stories in the campaign is one told by Leslie Peralta, an occupational therapy student at Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. In a testimonial video, she makes a powerful plea to other students to follow the Compact.
“COVID-19 is not a myth,” Peralta says. “I have had friends who tested positive for COVID-19 and recovered, but unfortunately, I have also had multiple family members that have passed away from COVID-19. The Community Compact allows me to respect those I go to school with to keep myself and them safe.”
The campaign was spearheaded by University Life with production partnership from the Office of Public Affairs, Columbia Health and Columbia University Facilities and Operations. New content will be rolled out throughout September. A second phase featuring content from University Life’s Keep Our Community Healthy Student Ambassadors will follow in October.
