American Language Program Lecturer Shares Insights on Project-Based Learning and Remote English Language Instruction Across the Globe

Brittany Ober, Lecturer with the American Language Program (ALP), presented two webinars in June to international faculties on the topics of project-based learning and remote English Language instruction.

For The Prospect Colleges of Chongqing and Shanxi, a liberal arts institution in China, Ober presented “Project-Based Learning: An Overview,” focusing on the literature and practical experience of writing and implementing project-based courses. The faculty at The Prospect Colleges are developing and refining projects for their courses in English, Business Administration, International Economics and Trade, History, and Psychology, among other disciplines.

For UNAM, Extensión San Miguel de Allende, in Mexico, Ober participated in a series of talks, “Perspectivas Contemporáneas sobre la Enseñanza y el Aprendizaje de Idiomas,” which illustrated various approaches to remote English Language instruction and pedagogy. Ober’s webinar, “Reflections on the Pivot to Remote Teaching,” discussed the benefits and challenges of remote instruction and which remote practices language teachers may want to retain when returning to their physical classrooms. "Working with colleagues at schools around the world is inspiring and rewarding," Ober said of the experience. "As a presenter, I am grateful to have the opportunity to share my point of view, and in the Q/A sessions, participants offer up fresh ideas and ask illuminating questions, which allows me to reflect on and expand my pedagogy."
