Is No News Still Good News?: Navigating the Infodemic

Two journalists, both professors at Columbia SPS, help us sift through the noise to understand the facts amid the growth of social media and the unraveling of “truth” by politicians. They will take COVID-19 as a use case of the damage caused by mis- and disinformation and present some alternative positive forms of news.

Ambika Samarthya-Howard and Liza Gross will touch on critical topics such as implicit bias in reporting and information, the role of social media in distribution of news, and aspects of informed solutions journalism. Viewed through a specific, globalized lens, this discussion will help us increase awareness of key aspects in the creation and spread of misinformation.
