Steven Angel

Lecturer; Senior Vice President, Game Analytics and Strategy at National Basketball Association

Steven Angel is a Senior Vice President in Basketball Strategy and Analytics at the National Basketball Association and oversees the league’s referee analytics program, which is focused on monitoring and improving performance, helping ensure the integrity of the game, and supporting decisions about playing rules. Steven is largely responsible for designing the league’s comprehensive, data-driven effort to collect and analyze referees calling and non-calling data, and also works on referee and rules communications, particularly in the areas of transparency, call reporting and rules clarification.

Prior to joining the league, Angel worked for Sibson Consulting, a division of the Segal Company, where he was an NBA consultant focusing primarily on the referee program. In his capacity as Senior Vice President, Angel’s clients also included high-profile organizations such as the NFL, the NHL, 3M, Corning, Merrill Lynch, and Pfizer.

Angel holds an M.B.A in finance and banking from New York University, and a bachelor’s in business administration from Hofstra.
