Jenn Counter

Course Associate, Strategic Communication

Jennifer Counter is a Vice President at Orbis Operations where she leads engagement with international clients around national security, foreign relations, and strategic communications to meet host country policy objectives. Prior to Orbis Operations, she was a Vice President at Ipsos Public Affairs in Washington, DC where she lead work for public sector and nongovernmental organizations in the Risk Analysis Division, a new functional unit within Ipsos. Ms. Counter’s team used remote sensing, traditional survey and research work, and new technology solutions to provide clients with in-depth perspectives on their risk profile, public sentiment towards clients’ brands and leadership, and status of infrastructure and other facilities in geographies of interest. Prior to Ipsos, Ms. Counter was involved with start-ups in the security and communications spaces and undertook business development efforts for private equity firm Granahan McCourt Capital. She did postings overseas in Afghanistan, Kenya, and Ireland for the State Department’s Regional Affairs Office where she led and implemented strategic communications programs and tackled transnational issues such as counterterrorism. Ms. Counter was a United States Air Force Officer and received her commission through the Air Force ROTC program. 

Jennifer holds a B.A. in Political Science from Boston University, a M.A. in Global Diplomacy from the University of London – School of Oriental and African Studies, and a M.S. in Strategic Communication from Columbia University. Ms. Counter enjoys giving back by acting as a Course Associate at Columbia University’s School of Professional Studies and as a mentor for Girl Security.
