The 30th Annual International Association for Conflict Management (IACM) Conference recently took place in Berlin, Germany, and brought together students and scholars from around the world. The strong showing from Columbia University’s Master of Science in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution (NECR) program included NECR Program Director Beth Fisher-Yoshida, this year’s AC4 (Advanced Consortium on Cooperation, Conflict, and Complexity) fellows, as well as students, alumni, and faculty from the program.
Presentations given by the AC4 fellows included:
- “Climate Change Adaptation Guidance for the Center for Conflict Resolution in Kampala, Uganda,” by Deborah J. Sachare, School of Professional Studies (SPS) advisor and NECR student and NECR international fieldwork fellow
- “The Importance of Cultural Competence to Address Emotions Effectively in Intercultural Mediation,” by Lucia Ferrarese, NECR student
- “Leveraging Tension for Constructive Change in Multicultural Groups: An Exploratory Interview Study,” by Allegra Chen-Carrel (along with Rebecca Bass, NECR student; Danielle Coon, NECR alum; and Peter T. Coleman, NECR faculty)
In addition, Meredith Smith, April Bang, Venera Kusari (NECR alum and SPS staff), Pascal da Rocha (NECR faculty), Aline Mugisho, and Connie Sun (NECR Associate Director) presented following the “Creative Approaches on Security, Protection and Empowerment” presentation.
Other NECR alumni in attendance included Deborah Delgado, Hans Kohler, and Christine Straw.
