New Full-Time Faculty and Academic Director Join Sports Management Program

Scott Rosner, Professor at the Wharton School, Principal of Hudson Sports Consulting, and J.D., University of Pennsylvania Law School, is joining Columbia University's Sports Management program as Academic Director. Columbia is also tapping sports entrepreneur Grant Son and NBA personality Len Elmore as full-time professors for the program.

“The selection of these impressive individuals reflects our commitment to procuring top industry professionals and academic leaders,” said Erik T. Nelson, Ph.D., Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Columbia SPS in an interview with Sports Business Journal.

Son, who currently teaches at both Columbia University and the Yale School of Management, also serves as CEO & Founder of the consulting firm Greater Good Ventures. In the past, he served as Vice President of Marketing at Time Inc., and CEO & President of Schoolsports, a digital media company recently acquired by ESPN. He earned his M.B.A. from Columbia University School of Business.

Elmore will draw on his own storied career as an athlete, lawyer, and media star. The former first-round NBA draft pick went on to earn his J.D. from Harvard University and serve as Senior Counsel with LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae. He rose to even greater prominence in his current role as on-air basketball analyst for Fox Sports and CBS Sports.

Rosner can’t wait to get started. "I could not be more excited to join the faculty of the School of Professional Studies at Columbia University and serve as the Academic Director of the Sports Management program,” Rosner said in an interview. “As the sports industry evolves, the school's scholar-practitioner approach aligns perfectly with the skills that are required for sports industry professionals to thrive and to serve in leadership positions."
