Sustaining Peace Conference Focuses on Women’s Crucial Roles in Peacebuilding and Security

Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Leymah Gbowee keynoted the fourth-annual Sustaining Peace Conference at Columbia University and participated in a panel discussion with Dr. Natasha Anandaraja; Sarah Knuckey, Faculty Co-Director of the Human Rights Institute at Columbia Law School; and panel moderator Beth Fisher-Yoshida, Director of the Negotiation and Conflict Resolution (NECR) master’s program.

The Storify for the event highlights the speakers’ insights:

“Speakers shared experiences from the fields of global health, human rights, and security. Together, these thought leaders and activists explored the unique contributions that women bring to peace and security, discussed the challenges that women face in those processes, and envisioned opportunities to magnify their impact and legitimacy in the world.”

The Sustaining Peace Conference is organized with support from the NECR program, the Morton Deutsch International Center on Cooperation and Conflict Resolution at Columbia’s Teachers College, and the 2015–2016 Fellows of the Earth Institute’s Advanced Consortium on Cooperation, Conflict and Complexity (AC4).
