Amy Karpati
Lecturer, Sustainability Management; Director of Science and Programs, Teatown Lake Reservation
Amy Karpati is an ecologist and environmental educator. She has worked as a conservation biologist and environmental advocate in the NJ Pinelands, as a science and programs director at a nature preserve and environmental education center in NY, and as an ecological consultant on various projects. Currently, she is the Senior Science Advisor at Teatown Lake Reservation, directing ecological research and monitoring on the preserve and guiding the organization's approach to biodiversity conservation and outreach. Dr. Karpati currently serves as the Chair of the Environmental Advisory Council in her place of residence, where she works with the municipality to integrate elements of environmental sustainability into the built environment while conserving and managing the natural resources of the community. Dr. Karpati’s teaching in the Master of Science in Sustainability Management program focuses on: (1) fostering urban sustainability through understanding and enhancing ecological function, biodiversity, and green infrastructure in cities; and (2) creating an actionable approach to address the global biodiversity crisis through land use planning and design, nature-based solutions, and measurement of biodiversity-related impacts and dependencies across sectors. Dr. Karpati holds a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolution as well as a B.S. in Natural Resource Management from Rutgers University, and a M.S.T. in Adolescent Education from Pace University.
