Elizabeth Böttcher

Elizabeth Böttcher has been teaching English as a Second Language since 1988 both abroad and in the United States. She has taught in adult private language schools, public schools (K-12) in New York and Illinois, and has been teaching at the American Language Program (ALP) since 2004. As a full-time lecturer, she teaches all levels in the intensive English program as well as courses in the part-time program for students who are already matriculated at Columbia University and need to reach a certain level in our program to graduate. In the summer of 2010, Böttcher taught Advanced Academic Preparation for students planning to attend American universities.

In addition to teaching, Böttcher has been involved in assessment at the American Language Program (ALP). She was part of a team that created an upper-level writing guide, a new version of a placement exam, and has been working on a project to describe the levels of the program.

Böttcher presented on listening at the TESOL Conferences in 2007 in Seattle and in 2008 in New York. In 2009, she presented at ECOLT (East Coast Organization of Language Testers) in Washington, D.C. and had a proposal accepted at LTRC (Language Testing Research Colloquium) in Cambridge, U.K. in the spring of 2010. Currently, Böttcher is working on a new book that will be part of a reading series published by Pearson Longman.
